Principal Investigator: Dr. Adebola Adejimi

Disease: Preeclampsia

Research Description: Despite advancements in obstetric care, preeclampsia remains without effective treatments and a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly in low and middle-income countries. This proof-of-concept, randomized, placebo-controlled trial is assessing the impact of N-acetylcysteine (approved to treat respiratory issues and acetaminophen toxicity) supplementation on the reduction of severe symptoms among pregnant people diagnosed with early-onset preeclampsia. If successful, results could contribute to the reduction in maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.
