On June 11, 25 golfers came together at Ravinia Green to golf from dawn until dusk, each raising funds for Cures Within Reach. This year, golfers raised nearly $40,000 to fund cancer-related repurposing research!

LDOG Collage for 2018What is the Cures Within Reach Longest Day of Golf?

A golf tournament, unlike any other.

Each year, 24-40 players golf from dawn til dusk - sometimes as many as 100 holes, each raising money to fund a repurposing clinical trial. In support of this amazing effort, we secure a private course, and provide our players with refreshments, carts, prizes, and encouragement.

Together, these players have created amazing impact, changing lives for patients with prostate cancer, pediatric brain cancer, autism, Alzheimers, and pediatric auto-immune disease.

 How does it work?

Registered players contribute or raise a minimum of $1,000, with many players raising $3-5K. We are happy to help you reach your fundraising minimum by creating your personal donation web page & providing you with anything you may need, including: example emails, informative PDFs, and social media posts.

On the day itself, these players enjoy open play on a private, LDOG-players ONLY course from dawn til dusk. This year, we'll return to Ravina Green in Riverwoods, IL.

What's being funded in 2018?LDOG Collage for 2018 2

We are pleased to announce that funds raised will support cancer repurposing research.

One project to be funded:

Repurposing Old Drugs as New Therapies for Metastatic Thyroid Cancer - Paul Swiecicki, MD, University of Michigan

There currently are limited effective therapies for metastatic thyroid cancer, resulting in a poor prognosis for many patients. Based on work in other types of cancer, the research team proposes a clinical trial testing the repurposed drugs sirolimus and cyclophosphamide as an effective treatment combination in metastatic thyroid cancer.

Your support is improving lives for these specific patients while adding momentum to a patient-centered research approach.

Thank you to our 2018 Sponsor

Longest Day of Golf

FAQs

Am I required to be there all day?

Cures Within Reach (CWR) will be on the course from 5am until 9pm. You’re welcome to come and go as much as you’d like throughout the day. Play for an hour or two, or play from dawn til dusk - whatever you’d like!

What if I’m a single golfer?

If you’re interested in playing with other golfers, we’re happy to pair you up. Just let us know!

How hard is it to raise $1,000?

Easier than you think! We can provide you with email templates to personalize and send to your friends, family, coworkers, etc. We’ll also send you social media post examples for Facebook and Twitter, as well as your own personal fundraising page where we’ll track your donations and report them to you on a weekly basis.

What if I don’t raise $1,000 by June 11?

No problem. You can still join us on the course from dawn until dusk, just continue to fundraise through July 31 or until you reach $1,000!

Are donations tax deductible?

All funds donated to CWR may be tax deductible for federal income tax purposes. CWR is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt not-for-profit organization, tax ID 20-3620169.

Is my donation eligible for company match?

Many companies offer a match program - we are eligible. Check with your HR department on how to apply for a matching donation. Your company match pledge will go towards your $1,000 minimum even if your company cannot process a match by June.

What if it rains on June 11?

We are a rain or shine golf event!

What do I bring day of?

Bring your clubs! Since this is a private, CWR-only course for the day, the shop will not be open to rent out clubs. Other items to bring: sunglasses/hat, a light jacket, an umbrella, and any other personal comfort items. We provide sunscreen, bug spray, aspirin, bandages, snacks, water, sports drinks, breakfast, lunch, dinner, golf carts, and encouragement! The clubhouse, including the store, is not open on June 11.

I have dietary restrictions! Do I need to bring my own food?

We are happy to accommodate any dietary preferences. Gluten free? Kosher? Vegan? Let us know and we’ll make sure you’re taken care of all day long on June 11: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.

What types of sponsorship opportunities exist?

There are many ways for sponsors to get involved, from in-kind food donations to hole sponsorship. Click here for a summary of sponsorship opportunities; contact Jessica Wayne at jessica.wayne@ameritech.net for more information.

Are there any volunteer opportunities at the event?

There are a small number of volunteers needed – it’s a pretty relaxed event! Some volunteer roles may be: hang out at the welcome desk to greet golfers, keep the water stocked and cold, take photos. If you’re interested in volunteering, email Susan Braze at susan@cureswithinreach.org.
