“As many of you know, my wife, Lori has suffered and continues to battle Type I Diabetes for the past 45 years.  It remains a daily battle which by the grace of medical research and her continued diligence, that we are able to maintain the quality of life that we otherwise may not enjoy if not for the amazing work and research of Dr. Lee Jampol, emeritus with Northwestern’s Ophthalmology Department. In addition to being the former Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University from 1983-2010, Dr. Jampol has published numerous articles, is widely recognized as one of the top ophthalmologists in the world. Dr. Jampol current focus is on how Diabetic Retinopathy is managed worldwide with his oversight of the DRCR Retina Network.  Diabetic retinopathy is an eye condition that can cause vision loss and blindness in people who have diabetes. It affects blood vessels in the retina (the light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of your eye).

 

We are also supporting the continued funding of dozens of medical repurposing clinical trials that Cures Within Reach funds and manages. Cures Within Reach’s improves patient quality and length of life by leveraging the speed, safety and cost-effectiveness of testing already approved therapies for new uses.  CWR has funded over 128 repurposing trials including cardio, neuro, oncology, diabetes, ophthalmic, vascular and rare diseases in pediatrics and adults. Clinical trials are dedicated to repurposing approved drugs, devices, diagnostics, nutraceuticals and combination products and facilitated over $85M in medical research projects.  CWR will identify an affordable path for you to fund and make a meaningful contribution to specific research that you are interested in.”
